Gerbil cages and hamster cages?
I'm looking for an escape proof Syrian hamster cage and good gerbil cages. I plan on getting two Syrian hamsters(yes i know they need to be caged separately) and two gerbils come spring and i need escape proof cages since i have cats and have had problems with cages and Syrian hamsters before. I don't care how much the cage is I'm willing to pay 60 dollars for a cage, also do bin cages work good and are they pretty escape proof?
Thank you!
Hamster cages are really pretty bad for gerbils, and most arent big enough to happily house a syrian hamster.
Either a bin cage or a glass tank would be your best bet.
Bin cages are probably cheaper, but dont look as 'profesional' as glass tanks.
Both offer much more space for your money than cages do, and as long as they have proper screen lids then ventilation and escapes will not be a problem.
As long as you make a bin cage properly then yes, they will be escape proof.
They will hold a lot of substrate for the animals (gerbils especially) to burrow in and give them a lot of space to move around. Many DIY bin cages you see have wire/mesh panels on the side but as long as you have a proper ventialted lid these are not necessary (the gerbils would probably benefit without them - allowing for deeper substrate)
Get the biggest tank/bin you can find; and i really bet it would still be cheaper than a cage of a similar - or smaller - size
